One employment figure makes the headlines, then another seems to contradict it. For someone looking for work in Morocco, the news can become confusing. This autumn, one detail deserves particular attention: the measurement framework has changed.
What the HCP published
In its August 3 release covering the second quarter of 2026, the HCP introduces EMO2026, replacing the previous employment survey. It counts work for pay or profit and uses a strict unemployment definition. Results therefore cannot be compared directly with earlier publications; the HCP provides backcast series.
A national indicator does not describe your application
Our reading for jobseekers is straightforward: statistics provide context, but they do not tell you how many employers need your skills in your city. Someone available immediately in Tangier and a student seeking a first internship in Fez face different constraints.
Before judging your chances, look at evidence you can actually use. Which vacancies are recent? Which tools appear repeatedly in job descriptions? Is the requested experience essential or merely preferred? Reading closely is less dramatic than a headline number, but more helpful when preparing an application.
Turn monitoring into decisions
For two weeks, keep a small selection of vacancies that genuinely match your profile. Record the role, location, skills, publication date and any response. This helps distinguish a shortage of relevant openings from a CV that does not explain your experience clearly.
If the same missing skill keeps appearing, choose a practical exercise: a tracking spreadsheet for an administrative role, a technical demonstration for maintenance, or a reception scenario for customer service. Show what you can do without presenting practice work as professional experience.

Keep two perspectives separate: statistics help you understand the environment; vacancies help you decide where to apply. A difficult market is no reason to send an identical CV everywhere. A few carefully targeted applications, tracked over time, can at least show what is working.
