What is CNSS?
The National Social Security Fund (CNSS) is the Moroccan public body responsible for managing social protection for private-sector employees. Created in 1961, it now covers more than 3.5 million active employees.
Registration with CNSS is mandatory for every private-sector employer. From your first day of work, your employer must register you. You then receive a registration number to keep carefully throughout your career.
CNSS responsibilities
- Manage employees' and employers' social contributions
- Pay social benefits (health, maternity, retirement, death)
- Administer Compulsory Health Insurance (AMO)
- Manage the Unemployment Benefit (IPE)
- Pay family allowances
CNSS contributions: who pays what?
Contributions are shared between the employee and the employer. Here are the details of the current rates:
Employee share (deducted from your gross salary)
| Benefit | Rate | Ceiling | |-----------|------|---------| | Social benefits | 4.48% | 6,000 DH/month | | AMO (health insurance) | 2.26% | No ceiling | | **Total employee** | **6.74%** | - |Employer share (paid by the employer)
| Benefit | Rate | Ceiling | |-----------|------|---------| | Social benefits | 8.98% | 6,000 DH/month | | Family allowances | 6.40% | No ceiling | | AMO (health insurance) | 4.11% | No ceiling | | Vocational training tax | 1.6% | No ceiling | | **Total employer** | **21.09%** | - |Contribution ceiling
For social benefits (excluding AMO), a monthly ceiling of 6,000 DH applies. This means that even if your gross salary is 15,000 DH, the 4.48% contribution applies only to the first 6,000 dirhams, i.e. a maximum of 268.80 DH.
AMO, on the other hand, is calculated on the entire salary with no ceiling.
