The cover letter: still mandatory in 2026?
In Morocco, YES. Unlike some international markets that are abandoning the cover letter, the Moroccan market remains attached to it, especially for internships. It shows your seriousness, your writing ability, and your genuine motivation for the target company. But be careful: a bad letter is worse than no letter. Here is how to write a letter that makes a difference.
The 4-paragraph structure
Every effective cover letter follows this structure:
- The hook (2-3 lines): why you are writing, what you are looking for
- The “You” / The company (3-5 lines): why THIS company
- The “Me” / My skills (4-6 lines): what you bring
- The “We” / The conclusion (2-3 lines): shared project + availability
Ideal length: 15-20 lines maximum (half a page to two-thirds of a page).
Complete example: Digital marketing internship
Casablanca, January 15, 2026
Subject: Application for a digital marketing internship – 4 months starting February 2026
Dear Sir or Madam,
As a second-year student in the Master's in Digital Marketing at ENCG Casablanca, I am looking for a 4-month end-of-studies internship. Your agency represents for me the ideal environment in which to put my academic knowledge into practice on concrete projects.
I discovered DigitalFirst through your campaigns for [Client X], whose creativity and results on Instagram I particularly appreciated. Your positioning in social media and performance marketing corresponds perfectly to my specialization and professional ambitions.
During my studies, I developed strong skills in social media management, content creation, and data analysis. My previous internship at [Company Y] allowed me to manage 3 client accounts independently, achieve a 25% increase in engagement rate, and master Meta Business Suite and Google Analytics tools. I am also certified in Google Digital Marketing and Meta Blueprint.
I would be delighted to contribute to your client projects and bring my energy and skills to your team. Available from February 1, 2026, I remain at your disposal for an interview at your convenience.
Yours faithfully,
Amina Benali

Example: IT / development internship
Rabat, December 10, 2025
Subject: Application for a PFE internship in web development – 6 months
Dear Sir or Madam,
As a final-year engineering student at ENSIAS, specializing in software engineering, I am looking for a 6-month end-of-studies internship in web development. The project I would like to carry out concerns the design of a web application with a microservices architecture.
Your company attracts me for its recognized expertise in SaaS solutions and your modern technical stack (React, Node.js, PostgreSQL). The testimonial from [Former intern / article] about the quality of technical supervision at [Company] confirmed my interest.
My background has allowed me to develop strong skills in JavaScript (React, Node.js), Python, SQL databases, and agile methods. I have completed several academic projects, including a full e-commerce application and an intelligent chatbot. My personal project on GitHub (500+ commits) demonstrates my passion for development.
Motivated and autonomous, I am convinced that this internship will be mutually enriching. I am available from February 2026 and remain at your disposal for a technical interview.
Best regards,
Youssef Ait Mhand
Example: Finance / accounting internship
Casablanca, November 5, 2025
Subject: Internship request in audit / accounting – 3 months
Dear Sir or Madam,
As a student in the Professional Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Control, and Audit at FSJES Aïn Chock, I am looking for a 3-month practical internship within your firm. This internship is part of my career plan to become a chartered accountant.
Your firm enjoys an excellent reputation for the quality of its intern training and the diversity of its clientele (SMEs, national groups). The possibility of participating in varied audit assignments constitutes a unique learning opportunity for me.
Rigorous and methodical, I have mastered general and cost accounting, Sage software, and advanced Excel. My last internship in an accounting firm familiarized me with the tax return package, VAT returns, and bank reconciliation for a portfolio of 15 client files.
I very much wish to join your team and contribute to your assignments. Available immediately, I am entirely at your disposal for an interview.
Respectfully,
Karim El Amrani
Phrases to use
For the opening
- “Student in [field] at [school], I am looking for a [duration] internship in the field of [field].”
- “Currently in [year] of [program], I am writing to apply for an internship in your [department/service].”
- “Keenly interested in [sector/company activity], I would like to carry out my end-of-studies internship within your organization.”
To talk about the company
- “Your company particularly attracts me for [specific reason].”
- “I was struck by [project/innovation/reputation].”
- “Your positioning in [market/technology] corresponds to my professional aspirations.”
To conclude
- “I am available for an interview at your convenience.”
- “I remain at your disposal to discuss my application.”
- “While awaiting your response, I kindly ask you to accept...”
Closing formulas (end of letter)
- “Yours faithfully,” (classic)
- “Respectfully,” (shorter, acceptable)
- “Best regards,” (email, less formal)
What makes the REAL difference
- Personalization: mention the company name, a specific project, recent news
- Concrete results: “+25% engagement” is better than “good results”
- Prior research: show that you have studied the company (website, LinkedIn, press)
- The right tone: professional but not robotic, enthusiastic but not excessive
- Clarity about the period: precise availability dates
The 8 mistakes that eliminate your application
- Visible copy-paste: “Your company, a leader in its sector...” with no evidence of research
- Spelling mistakes: the first mistake = trash for many recruiters
- Too long: beyond 20 lines, nobody reads to the end
- Talking only about yourself: the “You/The company” part is mandatory
- No availability date: the recruiter must know WHEN you can start
- Too casual a tone: “Hello, I wanted to tell you that your company is so cool”
- Too pleading a tone: “I beg you to give me a chance...”
- Sending in .doc: formatting breaks. Always in PDF.
Cover letter by email vs classic letter
By email (95% of cases in 2026)
- The email subject replaces the letter subject
- The body of the email IS the letter (no need for a separate attachment for the letter)
- Attach your CV in PDF
- Keep a professional tone despite the email format
Hand-delivered (for unsolicited applications)
- Print the letter and CV on quality white paper
- Place them in an envelope with the recipient's name
- Ask to hand them directly to the HR person
- Very effective in Morocco, especially in SMEs
Checklist before sending
- Is the company name correct and spelled properly?
- Are the dates and durations consistent?
- No spelling mistakes (proofread by a third person)?
- Is the CV attached in PDF?
- Is the email subject clear and professional?
- Are the contact details up to date (phone, email)?
- Is the letter less than one page?
Conclusion
A good cover letter for an internship in Morocco does not need to be literary — it must be clear, personalized, and show your genuine motivation. Follow the 4-paragraph structure, personalize it for each company, and pay attention to spelling. It is a 20-minute investment that can open the doors to your career.
